The Relationship is the Project
Working closely with communities.
‘The Relationship is the Project’ is a resource that helps practitioners, artists and cultural workers better engage with community-based projects.
I originally commissioned and curated this project as part of my Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship 2018-2019. It was inspired by my experience as Director & CEO at Footscray Community Arts, where I identified a lack of practitioner-led resources to grow community engaged practice as a whole. As the original curator, I had the great pleasure of commissioning a series of provocations and ideas from artists, practitioners, and organisations to explore what it means to work ethically and responsibility in community-engaged contexts.
With over 40 contributors from across Australia, it is the only resource of its kind and is committed to being a go-to for anyone interested in working better with communities.
‘The Relationship is the Project’ is now in its second edition, due out in late-2023, and co-edited by Kate Larsen, Cara Kirkwood and Jax Jacki Brown.
This project has been supported by the Sidney Myer Fund (Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship), Creative Australia and Creative Victoria.
